Our Mission

Seattle University Credit Union Initiative is an effort to launch a full service not-for-profit financial cooperative, that is run and operated by students, with esteemed professionals guiding and mentoring alongside students. We aim to not only provide financial products and services to the Seattle University and underserved communities that surround it, but to build long lasting and valuable relationships with our community and our members. Our initiative elevates experiential learning at Seattle University, providing invaluable opportunities and experiences for students.

About Us

Seattle University Credit Union Initiative was started in January 2024 by Adjunct Professor and Chairman, Cisco Malpartida Smith. With a group of dedicated and leadership driven students, we are working to become a legal financial institution, providing invaluable opportunities, experience, and offering products at better rates and lower fees for Seattle University and its surrounding communities.

At SUCUI, we aim to provide unique financial products and services with a focus on sharing financial literacy to our target members, which are college students and Capitol Hill residents ages 18-24.

Our uniqueness stems from being completely managed by students, which significantly reduces costs, resulting in better rates and lower fees providing affordable and value-added experiences for our members. The direct student-to-student connections we foster, coupled with our strong ties to the SU brand and existing networks, offer a personalized touch that traditional banks often lack. Our blend of affordability, personalization, and credit building opportunities sets us apart as a distinct and advantageous financial choice.

At our initiative, we are centered around educating the community. We already have a team of dedicated students working on creating, and delivering financial literacy to our community, seeding the market with free financial literacy even before we are charted. Through collaborations within clubs, organizations, and guest speakers, we can share baseline financial literacy content, and are in the process to create free, engaging, and interactive financial literacy series for students, and members of our community.
